Chow Chow

Imagine Chows has been showing and breeding quality Chows for over 30 years. Receiving the AKC Non-Sporting Breeder of the Year award in 2006, George and Kathy Beliew have produced over 31 Chows that have been awarded multiple Best in Shows and Imagine is known worldwide, for Chows obtaining the highest titles offered by the National breed club and top rankings in the AKC, with exceptional quality in type, temperament and health. Ten years ago, my husband and I joined George and Kathy, having the goal to continue producing Chows with beautiful type, and good temperaments, from dogs with extensive health testing and clearances that exceed the breed's average results. George remains an active part in breeding decisions and determining the future of Imagine. The price for a puppy starts at $5,000. Our puppies are exposed to age appropriate stimulation exercises from the day they're born, which results in well-adjusted puppies that are friendly, eager to learn, and who quickly adapt to new surroundings and people. They're raised in our home and potty-trained, with basic social skills and obedience training beginning before they leave. All puppies have a guarantee against crippling hip and elbow dysplasia. I welcome questions and will do my best to provide answers and help with furthering understanding of the Chow breed, their temperament and the health issues faced by the breed, and to assist in finding the right match of a puppy to a buyer. If I don't have what you're looking for, I may be able to recommend another breeder that consistently health tests and can provide you with documentation which supports this. OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) has the established standard for health testing and maintains a database for results , and proof of evaluations are available upon request, or can be found by visiting OFA.org. I strongly encourage buyers to request proof of any and all claims of health testing (being x-rayed and graded by a vet is not the standard). Currently the Chow Chow Club, Inc., recommends evaluations be done for hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, eye disease, auto-immune thyroid disease, cardiac disease, and slipping patellas. Chows have also been diagnosed with Degenerative Myelopathy; a DNA test for this disease is available. AKC proudly supports dedicated and responsible breeders. We encourage all prospective puppy owners to do their research and be prepared with questions to ask the breeder. Make sure you are not only choosing the right breed for you, but also that you’re getting it from the right individual.
