We are a Christian homeschooling family of 5 that love our Labradors. We live in the country on the outskirts of Sherrard, Illinois. When we were well into our homeschooling journey with our 3 daughters, they started discussing “what I want to be when I grow up.” Our oldest expressed an interest in breeding Labs. It is the family’s favorite breed, after all. After extensive research, we decided it would be a great opportunity to teach them small business management, work ethics, morals, economics, public relations, advertising and much more. We have always held the position if you do something, do it right, or don't do it at all. For breeding, this means the short and long-term health of our puppies is top priority. This refrains us from breeding designer labs, such as mini or dilutes. We also do extensive genetic testing through Paw Print Genetics or Embark to make sure all of our dogs are clear of known genetic health issues. To help ensure the puppies do not have hereditary hip dysplasia, the sire and dam are OFA or PennHIP tested and must receive a rating equivalent to “good” or “excellent.” After researching nutrition for dogs, we made the decision to feed raw meat/bones (Homemade and Instincts Raw) and/or Life's Abundance dog food. Our dogs hold titles in a variety of different sports, including Therapy Dog, Dock Diving, Canine Good Citizen, Working Certificates, Certified Pointing Retriever and Junior Hunt. When they are not competing, they enjoy swimming, hunting, hanging around the house, visiting nursing homes, and playing with our horse Cooper. Maggie Lou enjoys trying to teach Cooper how to “squeak” a tennis ball. In 2012 our first litter was born. What an adventure it has been! We started with one female. Six years later we have three females and one male. In 2015 we implemented Puppy Culture. Although we were already following most of the Puppy Culture protocol, it gave us clear organization and a timeline. Puppy Culture lays the foundation for emotional stability and learning – giving the puppies the best start in life. Our puppies are born and raised in our house. From the time mom is ready to deliver, all the way through the crate and potty training phase, we can be found sleeping right next to mom and the puppies so we are readily available. Each litter is raised and cared for by one of our teenagers. The puppies receive individual and group attention, training, and socialization opportunities. We post weekly updates on our Facebook page during their 8 weeks with us and we are available for support, advice and updates after puppies are in their forever homes.

I've been involved with Labrador retrievers since 1986. I breed first for the best possible temperaments and then for the conformation - both a balance and a style (look) - that I believe a Labrador Retriever should have. I'm a lifetime member of our national club, the LRC, Inc, and two regional clubs, MVLRC (in Ohio) and LRCP (in the VA/MD/DC area) and have been members of these clubs for over 30 years each. You can find 3 of the dogs I've bred on the Dickendall web site (Dickendall.com), Dickendall Buckstone Zane and Banburys Vincent on the "Dogs of the past" page, and CH Banbury Dickendall Miss Me Now SH on the "Boys" page. I am a small kennel on about 5 acres located about 40 miles east of St. Louis (as I mentioned above) and I normally only have 1, sometimes 2, litters a year. I've lived in Virginia, Ohio, Texas, Nebraska, and have been involved in showing, breeding, hunt training, and obedience with my dogs for over 30 years now. I ensure all my girls (I don't normally keep any males here) have their hips and eyes cleared, as well as what are becoming standard DNA tests, and I do the research on dogs I use in my breeding program to produce sound, healthy puppies. Of critical importance is the willing-to-please, owner-focused and happy-go-lucky Labrador temperament. The lines I breed produce solid, healthy Labradors that I really enjoy living with and looking at! My goal is to produce healthy puppies that others will also enjoy living with and looking at! I don't offer a health "guarantee" because I don't believe anyone can guarantee the outcome on a living thing that is impacted by so many factors - both genetic and environment. I would also expect that you would contact me first if you ever needed to find one of my puppies/dogs a new home. I breed the English (show) type Lab as opposed to the American (field) type, and there are 2 main differences between them Labs. First is the way they look. The English lab is denser, heavier boned with a blockier, shorter muzzled head, and it will not be as tall. It will usually have a heavier coat, with a thick, straight, shorter, otter tail that does not tend towards curling up over the back. The second difference and sometimes the most important, is the difference in temperament. The American Lab is bred to do a job - they are bred to focus on the job - and if you give them that job to do they are satisfied. The problem often comes in when families that get this type of dog don't understand the high energy level or mentality of this type of Lab, so they don't provide enough "jobs/work" for this type of dog and the dog then finds jobs to do on their own (with many of those jobs winding up destructive to the environment, e.g., digging, fence/siding/furniture chewing, etc). Often this type of dog can wind up spending more time separated from the family in the garage or backyard and then becomes hyper due to the separation when allowed back with the family, which just becomes a vicious circle of separation/hyper/jumping-type behavior. I am always glad to answer questions to try and help educate folks on our breed. As I mentioned, I normally do not keep males, so I do not provide stud service. I love showing my dogs and have been active in the show community in several regions of the country over the years as I've moved around. Every once in a while I have an older dog to place. I do not breed chocolates, only blacks and once in a while, yellows.

What started as my own FFA project in high school, has turned into a true love for the Labrador retriever and the beginning of Esker's White Diamond Kennel. We are a small, family-run kennel located in Fults, Illinois that specialize in yellow labs. Our current litters will have very light coats and will almost be pure white. Our current labs are what is considered an "English Labrador" with a very blocky head, short nose, and broad body. They are beautiful animals and have great personalities. All of our dogs are socialized with other dogs as well as having a great temperament for a family dog.
