Lynda Farley is from Kentucky and breeds ONLY Afghan Hounds, and has been a member of Mid Kentucky Kennel Club (all breed) for more than 20 years. We have always since our 2nd litter in 1997, provided 3 year written genetic health guarantees with our puppies. I have had a good practical working knowledge of principles of genetics for more than 50 years. Though I ended up with a Computer Science degree, I took Genetics in college, when I majored in Biology my first 2 years. It was my favorite subject, and I ACED it. I did VERY extensive pedigree research on our foundation dog and 3 foundation bitches. Also, had hips Xrayed on foundtation dog when he was 7, although did not get them sent to OFA, vet thought they looked very good. All 3 of our Foundation bitches were OFAd, and also the one outbred dog we have owned (the one CH I finished that was not of my own breeding). In 25 years, none have ever come back with HD, cataracts, thyroid, nor any other such genetic issues. Also, we have never yet produced any with stomach or lung torsion, or chylothorax, which are showing up in some of the other lines. There ARE NO genetic or other tests for these most terrible conditions. I have avoided using dogs from those lines, and (so far) we have avoided those problems. I have never used a dog with a genetic health defect. I have used available testing when possible, and always on outbred stock, but our remote location makes getting every single test on every single dog prohibitive. I have 6 children, and 17 (so far) grandchildren. The LAST thing I've ever had here is a nasty dog. Our dogs have over all wonderful, sweet, temperaments. Many of them are very outgoing, and they all love children. I have done extensive litter evaluations when my pups were 8-9 weeks old, and usually kept the best boy and girl for myself to show. We finished dozens of Champions and 4 Grand Champions from the ones I kept, and I have usually put whole litters of mostly show quality puppies in loving companion homes. On my website, which has been online since 1998, are photos of EVERY Afghan Hound I have ever owned, and ever produced. Afghan Hounds are the ONLY dogs I've ever bred. Since I owned my first one in 1989, there is no other breed for me. One person got a foundation bitch from me years ago, and he has finished many Champions and some Grand Champions from her and her descendants, plus more from another CH bitch he got from me later. In 2018, he handled a puppy he got from me to break an all time breed record. CH Hosanna Call Down The Thunder On Shining Mountain finished his CH owner handled, at 6 months and 15 days old, with 3 days in a row of 5 point majors. That broke a record set almost 30 years ago, by Michael Canalizo, with a Grandeur Afghan Hound.
