ABOUT FALLING STAR SHIH TZU Falling Star Shih Tzu was founded by Troy Clifford Dargin and has been in effect since 1985. I would come home from junior high school and watch old national videos of Shih Tzu and read old Shih Tzu magazine and books. I found the type that I fell in love with. I loved the Dragonfire (Red Raider) and Wingate (Dickens) lines. I contacted both but Peggy Hogg of Dragonfire Shih Tzu was just getting out of breeding at that point. Jody Neal of Wingate told me the only way she would sell me a dog was if I came out to California to study with her handler, Clive Harrold for a summer. So off I go on my 16th birthday to learn how to groom. I didn't know a thing when I got to Clive's estate. I didn't even know how to coordinate my fingers to use rubber bands. Well, I am very glad I went that summer because I learned about 5 years of knowledge in 3 months time. We have had the priviledge of flying all over the United States, including Puerto Rico and Alaska with our dogs. We have had dogs in the top 10 and had the privilege of earning the Lainee Award for top producing bitch in 1997, tying for that award (with my own dogs!!!). We have had top producing dogs and several Registry of Merits on our dogs. We have finished over 55 home-bred champions in a 10 year period. At Falling Star we are dedicated to producing only the best dog possible. We don't breed to just make money. We also believe that if "experts" in the breed don't share their dogs with others then we really aren't doing much for the improvement of the breed. Don't get us wrong, we don't sell to just anyone, but everyone has to start somewhere. When a novice has shown their dedication at learning then we are willing to do our part to help out. Just think what could happen in our breed if every breeder took one person to mentor. At Falling Star we have strived very hard to perfect the "look" that we have established. We breed for health of course and we like a very pretty head but the dog must be able to move with a high head carriage (which is part of the breed standard). I have a small kennel nestled in the countryside in Missouri. Breeding programs, health, nutrition, and proper veterinary programs are very important. Puppies are started at birth on cloth potty pads, handled, loved, socialized and given the best care possible. Adults are also available occasionally as they retire; all are spayed/neutered prior to leaving. All puppies are placed with Puppy Registration Papers as companions only.

Our Shih Tzus live a better lifestyle than most humans; plenty of exercise - 'free-range' on 10 acres next to a beautiful creek, eat a limited-ingredient high quality diet, and get lots of attention and affection. We raised our kids in a nice subdivision in west county, MO, then decided to re-write our lives when they moved out, to some land on the water where our little farm animals are now our babies. Everyone runs around together in a little 'Fur and Feather' herd - puppies are socialized with chickens, guineas, cats and other dogs :) ... and also know the sound of kitchen noises, loving family voices, and the vacuum ;) And, Yes, everyone starts outdoor potty training at 4 weeks. I raise our puppies on our 40 acre farm in southwest Missouri. I have some different breeds because I love the personalities and variety of each breed. My daughter Carmen, my daughter in law Hannah,and our granddaughter Carley also help me by taking all my pictures and listing my puppies online. We have 7 kids all grown up and married except one and all are out of the house, so now we are enjoying our 16 grand kids that love to play with our puppies when they are here. We have been raising puppies for 16 years now. For these 16 years my husband has been a pastor of a small baptist church and I wanted to work from home to be able to go and help him when I could. I dearly love dogs and you can tell by all my children that nurturing is in my blood. My babies are raised at my home and that is why when you get your baby from me they will be use to the hustle and bustle of a family setting. We are licensed with the state of Missouri, USDA and AKC inspected. We go to many vet continuing education classes each year to make us a more informed professional. I have doctored with the same vet, Dr. Kenneth Mallard, at Strafford vet clinic for over 14 years. We are blessed that his office specializes in Bulldog reproduction. We have been officers in the Missouri Pet Breeders Association, members and directors of the Concerned Dog Breeders of the Ozarks, Pet Production Association, Missouri Animal Husbandry Association and Farm Bureau.
