If you’re interested in Pembroke Welsh Corgis in North Carolina and elsewhere, here are the answers to some frequently asked questions.
There are two breeds that come under the umbrella term Welsh Corgi – Pembroke Welsh Corgi and Cardigan Welsh Corgi.
Cardigan Welsh Corgis descended from Teckel dogs which are also the ancestors of Dachshunds. Pembroke Welsh Corgis are descendants of the Spitz family of canines. Cardigan Welsh Corgis have a foxlike tail that stays upright while Pembroke Welsh Corgis have a docked tail that stays close to the body. In addition, Cardigan Welsh Corgis are larger and heavier than their Pembroke cousins.
Pembroke Welsh Corgis have a docked tail. This is a requirement for the AKC breed standard. The practice originated because Pembroke Welsh Corgis were cattle herders and the tail had no function in this work and was only a hindrance.
Pembroke Welsh Corgis are loyal and loving canines that make excellent pets for families. This breed is especially well suited for city living as it is a small house dog.
There is no officially recognized Miniature Corgi breed. The only two AKC recognized breeds are Pembroke Welsh Corgi and Cardigan Welsh Corgi. People do breed so-called Mini Corgis, which are simply puppies of sires and dams chosen for their small size. However, these smaller sized Corgis are not genetically distinct from regular sized ones.

We encourage all prospective puppy owners to do their research and be prepared with questions to ask the breeder. As a breeder, I also will have some questions for you to be sure a Corgi is the right choice for you and your lifestyle. I only have a few litters each year. My dogs live in the house and are part of our family and I look for buyers that want a corgi as a family member and understand the breed's unique qualities. See my web page at www.corgisNcreatures.com to learn more. Call or text if interested. It takes me a lot longer to respond to email so if you are serious about one of my pups it is best to call. I have shown a little bit and am breeding only DM clear pups. I test pups if they have the possibility of being carriers and price based on limited registration. Please see my website corgisNcreatures.com to see more pictures and background information. Thanks for your interest. Caryn

I am a breeder of Pembroke Welsh Corgis and French bulldogs with over 25 years of breeding and experience in the pet care field. All of our dogs are AKC registered and tested for the genetic diseases that affect their breeds prior to breeding to assure none of our little ones will be affected by those diseases. We strive to produce happy and healthy puppies with the absolute best start in life and breed for correct conformation and excellent temperaments. Our puppies and adults are all on a strict deworming and vaccination schedule. All of our puppies are born and raised in our home and raised as part of our family and are socialized with our dogs and family/friends daily. We believe that the more social a puppy is, the better dog he/she will be. We are looking forward to helping you find your perfect new family member! Feel free to visit our website and or Mill Creek’s Pembroke Welsh Corgis Facebook page for additional information about our program as well as pictures of all of pups both past and present.
