In terms of size, Boykin Spaniels are medium sized, around 14-18 inches tall and 25-40 pounds in weight. The average lifespan of a Boykin Spaniel is 10-15 years.
Boykin Spaniels are loving and affectionate with family members and very playful. They do very well with young kids and other dogs provided they receive early socialization and puppy training classes.
These dogs are quite eager to please and therefore easy to train. They have high energy levels and are easily bored, however, so you have to keep them busy and provide opportunities to burn that energy in a positive way with daily exercise.
Boykin Spaniels are excellent swimmers and love to be around water. These dogs do best with individuals and families that like to stay active with running, hiking, swimming, and biking. Boykin Spaniels have a moderate barking tendency.
This is an adaptable breed that can adjust to changes in schedule. Boykin Spaniels are not overly reserved with strangers, but they don’t consider everyone their best friend either. A Boykin Spaniel can be a reasonably good watchdog.
In terms of grooming needs, Boykin Spaniels have a medium length wavy double coat that sheds a fair bit and needs a weekly brushing. The coat comes in rich chocolate colors that are strikingly attractive. Boykin Spaniels are not big droolers.
