In terms of size, Schipperkes are 10-13 inches tall and weigh 10-16 pounds. The average lifespan of a Schipperke is 12-14 years. They are unique looking with a foxy face, luxurious black coat, pricked ears, and a stealthy, cat-like gait.

These dogs are very affectionate with family members and do reasonably well with young kids and other dogs provided they receive early socialization and puppy training.

While very playful and moderately open to strangers, Schipperkes have a strong protective instinct and are extremely vigilant by nature, which makes them excellent watchdogs. They are alert and will patrol their property, seeking out and killing vermin, squirrels, and other small animals.

This is an adaptable breed and can adjust to changes in routine, which makes a Schipperke an ideal pet for a busy family.

The Schipperke has a short double coat that does not require a great deal of grooming care other than a weekly brushing. The coat can, however, shed quite a bit, especially during shedding season which occurs twice a year. Schips are not heavy droolers.

All in all, a Schipperke is a robust, compact companion that provides constant entertainment makes a devoted and protective family pet. If you’re interested in bringing home an alert and intelligent dog, consider the Schipperke. Check out listings of reputable Schipperke breeders on Puppy Hero.
