The phrase “What the Dog Doin” has been in the news lately and here’s why. In the urban dictionary, “what the dog doin” is simply a phrase that people use when they see a dog doing something unusual or confusing. It is generally not used for mundane things that dogs do, such as walking, barking, peeing, or eating.
In 2021, “what the dog doin” or “what da dog doin” became a catchphrase when a video uploaded on Vine went viral. It showed four men reaching into a tin of Icebreaker mints followed by a dog doing the same and one of the men saying “what the dog doin?”
The original video was uploaded in 2014 by comedian Tony Baker whose Twitter handle is @TonyBakerComedy. It featured Damaine Radcliff, King Bach, Liane V, Mr. Nate Jackson, and Neli Mac. The video however was archived and lost to posterity until a Twitter user @StacksBreadup tweeted it in 2019.
Now, the viral video “what the dog doin” has racked up more than 51,000 retweets and 153,000 likes on Twitter.
What the dog doin has given rise to numerous memes and has been shared on other social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube garnering millions of views.
