Why Do Dogs Put Their Paw on You?

Whether you’re a new dog parent or an old hand at loving and caring for four-legged friends, there’s always something new to learn about doggy language. Today, we’re going to tell you what it means when your dog puts his paw on you.

What does it mean when a dog puts her paw on you?

When a dog puts her paw on you, she is showing love, affection, and trust. Just like you stroke your pooch to show love, your dog extends her paw and makes contact with you to reciprocate the emotions.

Sometimes, dogs will put their paw on you to get your attention. For instance, if you were giving your dog a belly rub but got distracted, your dog may put his paw on you to say, “Pet me some more.” Similarly, placing his paw on you could mean, “I want to play” or “I’m hungry. I want some food.”

Less commonly, when a dog puts his paw on you, it can indicate he is in pain or is anxious. You should observe your pet for other signs and symptoms if you suspect a physical or mental health issue.

In general, if your dog has a relaxed mouth and ears, a low wagging tail, a soft gaze, and sighs gently while placing their paw on you, you can rest assured all is well.
